For some, the thought of their diagnosis is a daily presence. It rushes to the front of our thoughts, sometimes interrupting our day. Triggers can come from seeing a woman with a bald head, a smell that may trigger the chemo infusions we endured, or seeing a pink t-shirt that shows the familiar “fight” phrases.
Is there a day when we don’t ache or have pains? Is there a day that we don’t feel groggy or absent-minded from medications? A day when we don’t feel anxious about the possible return of the disease? Yes. There. Are.
How long has it been since you let your mind completely relax? For example, when you took a walk and felt the sunshine on your face, took a deep breath, were present in the moment, and felt at peace in your mind-unscathed by the thoughts of cancer?
It takes time; it is a process unique to each individual and has no set rules. However, each day is a blessing, and when we invest in acknowledging that beauty and direct our thoughts to self-care and helping others, it does make it easier.
Hugs,
~Susan
